bball Five Belmont Seniors Headline at the 2nd Music City All-Star Classic

Think you have missed your last chance to see Alex Renfroe flash across the court, or to watch Andy Wicke sink it from downtown? Luckily for us, Shane Dansby, Matthew Dotson,  Henry Harris,  Alex Renfroe, and Andy Wicke will play one final time in the Curb Event Center, Saturday, April 18  at 6 p.m.

Aside from a chance to see Belmont seniors in their final college game, those who come will also have the chance to see Belmont play along side and against college basketball stars from across the state. Three ETSU players, including Kevin Tiggs, will be playing on the other side of the ball against the five Bruins who haven’t seen Tiggs and company since they broke their ten game winning streak in the A-Sun Confrence tournament and kept them out of the big dance.

A slam-dunk and three-point shooting contest will round out the night. Ticketmaster will be selling adult tickets to the event for $10. Students can get theirs for half that.

Earth Hour in Nashville

March 31, 2009 · 2 Comments

Derek and I went downtown Saturday night to film Earth Hour. We tried to get a feel for what Nashville thought about the symbolic gesture of turning off non-essential lights for a hour and the gist of it is that everyone has mixed feelings on the whole thing. Instead of using the broadcast cameras, we used the Vision’s little HD cameras, Final Cut Express and Vimeo. Vimeo does a much better job of compressing HD video than YouTube, although there are limits to how many HD videos you can upload in a week (1) and how big the files can be (500MB per week).

I also uploaded it to Current. I kinda doubt that it’ll get picked for TV, but it’s entirely possible. You might be able to help that happen if you go to the video there and vote it up.

Belmont Plays ETSU to the Wire

February 27, 2009 · 2 Comments

Belmont had a great win on Valentine’s Day against ETSU.

ETSU beat Belmont during their first meeting this year by 30 points, which is also the largest margin of lose for for the Bruins this season. Belmont evened the score, however, with a exciting win that took four ties and 12 lead changes along the way.

For a full game recap, including Belmont’s chances at the top seat and a bye in the A-Sun tourney, check out this video.

Belmont Baseball Season Begins

February 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Belmont baseball began its 2009 season at 2 p.m. today in the first game of a double-header against Illinois State. Illinois State, which is traditionally known for solid hitting, with a weaker pitching rotation, should match up pretty evenly against the Bruins, who have similar traits. Although Belmont is being projected as the seventh best team in the Atlantic-Sun, it is important to remember they received the same projections last year and went to survive until the last day of A-Sun tournament play.

To learn more about this year’s Belmont baseball team, you can check out my season preview below.

Henry Harris racks up a season-high 15 points during the win over East Tennessee State University

Henry Harris racks up a season-high 15 points during the win over East Tennessee State University

An exciting Valentine’s Day come-back over ETSU, coupled with a Jacksonville loss earlier this week, has rocketed Belmont to the top of the Atlantic-Sun Conference.

After struggling in December, the men’s squad is kicking it into overdrive at just the right time of the season. Only a handful of games remain, including a regular season finale at the Curb Event Center against the previous top-team in the conference, Jacksonville.

Belmont is poised to take their fourth A-Sun Championship in as many years, as well as the NCAA Tournament birth that comes with it. Winning the conference out-right will give them the number one seed in Atlantic-Sun Tournament play, which could go a long way towards achieving that goal.

To hear more about Bruin’s Basketball, you can listen to my latest Blogtalkradio show.
